Chin Mee Chin

A century-old kopitiam, restored for the next hundred years.

The Story

Chin Mee Chin Confectionery first opened its doors in 1925 on East Coast Road, in the heart of Katong. For nearly a century, it served kaya toast, soft-boiled eggs, and freshly baked pastries to generations of Singaporeans — a quiet, steadfast presence in a neighbourhood defined by Peranakan culture and shophouse charm.

When Mission Group took stewardship of Chin Mee Chin, the brief was simple: restore, don’t reinvent. The original mosaic floors were preserved. The marble-topped tables stayed. The recipes — many unchanged since the 1930s — were honoured in full. What changed was the care behind the scenes: modern kitchen systems, better sourcing, a commitment to consistency that matches the quality of the heritage.

Today, Chin Mee Chin is one of Singapore’s most beloved institutions — a place where history is not just remembered but actively lived. Every morning, a queue forms before the doors open. Every afternoon, the kaya toast tastes exactly the way it should.
